The Duke and Duchess made a surprise appearance at the London Series over the weekend.
Author:Dara PrantPublish date:Jul 1, 2019Updated onJul 1, 2019Ever since announcing her engagement to Prince Harry, the world’s eyes have been fixed on Meghan Markle — and her style. We’ll be following the Meghan Markle Effect™ with our column, “Meghan Markle Wore a Thing.”
The Duchess of Sussex took a break from maternity leave on Saturday evening to accompany her husband, Prince Harry, to the first of two Major League Baseball games in London between the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees. For the occasion, her Royal Highness wore a black belted dress from Stella McCartney featuring a round neck, short sleeves, a rear zip fastening, a flared skirt and a front keyhole detail. The frock has already sold out online, but there is a preowned light pink version listed on Poshmark for only $185.
The new mom lightly accessorized her look with delicate turquoise stud earrings by Jennifer Meyer and a three-stone opal cuff bracelet from Wwake. For the casual outing, she swapped her go-to high heels for Aquazzura pointed-toe ballet flats.
Harry also opted for a low-key look: An Invictus Games polo to represent his long-term charitable initiative, which the couple was there to support.
Before the game, the royal pair paid a visit to each team, where they were gifted with a mini Red Sox romper and a tot-sized Yankees jersey for baby Archie. The Duke and Duchess then stood in the field to watch the ceremonial first pitch — thrown by We Are Invictus competitors — as “The Star-Spangled Banner” played in the background. The Duchess is still on maternity leave and will return to full public duty this fall.
