Loose Women’s Jane Moore has revealed that Kate Garraway has been told this may be the ‘new normality’ as her husband Derek Draper still ‘hasn’t regained consciousness’ after beating coronavirus.

Kate Garraway’s husband Derek Draper still hasn’t regained consciousness after fighting off coronavirus, her pal Jane Moore has said.
Speaking on ITV’s Loose Women, the 58 year old explained that she went to speak to Kate, 53, after her appearance on Good Morning Britain last Friday, 5 June.
She said: “I spent a couple of hours with her in her garden at a safe distance and did an interview with her.
“We’ve always known that Kate is incredibly strong and an amazing woman, but I honestly don’t know how she’s still standing.”

Jane went on to explain that to begin with everyone thought Derek, 52, who has been in intensive care for nearly 10 weeks, would have a similar experience to Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who came out of intensive care after just three days.
She continued: “You know, Derek, he contracted coronavirus, he went to hospital. It looked initially that he might sort of have like a Boris Johnson experience and come out sort of largely unscathed.
“But it’s attacked all of his vital organs. He’s now COVID-free, they’ve brought him out of the coma, they put him into an induced coma, they brought him out of the coma and he’s not regained consciousness yet.
“So every day she’s [Kate is] just kind of living with this awful uncertainty and now she’s talking about how, maybe, it’s a new normality,
“They’re preparing her, they’re saying maybe the new normality is that they’re never going to know whether he’ll recover.

The Loose Women star added that to cope with what’s going on Kate has gone into a “journalistic mode” and has also drawn strength from her two children Darcey, 14, and ten year old Billy, who has been sleeping by his dad’s bedside.
Kate said last week that Derek is now diabetic after his long and devastating battle with coronavirus.

She said: “So they could finally see the damage they hadn’t been able to see before. The virus has just attacked everything.
“He’s got a tracheotomy now, so he’s breathing through that, and his lungs, which have clots, are showing some sign of recovery.

Kate added to The Sun: “He’s been on kidney dialysis because his kidneys stopped functioning. And his nerves and his neurology have been affected by the virus, but the impact and the damage of that, they don’t yet know.
“He’s still being given breathing support, but the hope is that each day he will need less. They are watching him constantly, it’s like spinning plates. But whatever happens, we’re looking at months and months of rehabilitation.”
