EXCLUSIVE: The petition has been signed by Ricky Gervais and Katie Price and if it gets 100,000 signatures, it will be considered for debate in Parliament

Ricky Gervais is leading calls to ban the importation of young puppies – after the death of Love Island stars Tommy Fury and Molly-Mae’ Hague’s dog.
A Government e-petition has already got 15,000 signatures in under 48 hours – including figures from across the world of showbiz and politics.
Ricky signed the petition, as well as Dragons Den star Deborah Meaden, Bake-off winner Candice Brown, former Corrie star Shoba Gulati, singer Nicole Appleton, Downton Abbey star Peter Egan and Katie Price.
If the petition gets 100,000 signatures, it will be considered for debate in Parliament.
With more than 10,000 signatures, the Government are compelled to respond to it Bake Off star Candice said: “Having lost a dog at a young age who had clearly been over bred I understand and know the heartbreak and importance surrounding this issue.”
Politicians include Green MP Caroline Lucas.
She said: ”Plenty of dogs from UK breeders & rescues need homes. Transporting young pups long distances is often stressful, before being sold for ridiculous prices to unsuspecting dog-lovers. Government should ban this activity.”
North Thanet MP Sir Roger Gale, Kerry McCarthy Labour MP for Bristol East and SNP’s Lisa Cameron are all backing it.

Lucy Parkinson, 27, from Preston, Lancs, who started the petition, had previously spearheaded a change. org petition on the same subject, which got 60,000 signatures.
But she now wanted to target the lawmakers directly.
She said: “It would be brilliant to make a change and hopefully the Government will listen. I’ve got a nine-month-old puppy myself so when it came into the news, I couldn’t imagine what it would have been like putting my puppy through that journey.”
She is being supported by vet Marc Abraham, who was behind Lucy’s Law.
He said: “It’s a brilliant grass roots campaign. Lucy cared enough to try and make a difference and it’s really taking off.”
The petition states: “Plenty of dogs from UK breeders & rescues need homes.

Hague and Fury ‘s pomeranian Mr Chai died just days after he was imported by a Russian breeder.
